Netherland : wine consumption increase
2007 was a remarkable year for wine consumption in the Netherlands: It grew by more than 10% compared to 2006, and reached 21.6 litres per person. The wine than for the first time the consumption of beer!
The terms of consumption of Dutch draw preferences: The rosé wine is consumed mainly in hotels, while red wine is drunk preferably in the home. For its part, white wine is often purchased as gifts at parties with friends.
87% of wines are bought at the supermarket, and about half of these purchases are made on Friday and Saturday. The Dutch spend an average of 6 euros into wine at each visit to the supermarket, while in liquor stores or specialty shops they spend nearly 17 euros.
The average purchase price of white and pink is around 2.43 euros, while the price of red is approximately 2.64 euros. The french wines remain the best sellers in the Netherlands, followed by South Africa, Germany, Spain, Australia, Chile and Italy.
